PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – Police say a Saskatchewan teen has been charged for deploying bear spray on officers while trying to evade arrest.

The incident happened early Sunday morning in Prince Albert, where officers had been called for reports a 17-year-old had discharged bear spray on a 59-year-old man in an alley.

Police say once officers found the teen, he began to run away and sprayed them in the face.

Police say officers fought through the effects of the bear spray, managing to grab the teen and take him into custody.

The youth faces several charges, including assault with a weapon, assaulting a police officer and carrying a concealed weapon.

He was to make his first court appearance Monday in Prince Albert, about 140 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
