• 60 YEARS AGO — Oak Lake native Ted Taylor, former Brandon Wheat King captain, has been called up by the NHL’s New York Rangers to suit up in a game against the Boston Bruins.
• 50 YEARS AGO — The Souris Elks have done what no other team has managed to do in more than one full SouthWest Hockey League regular schedule — beat the Deloraine Royals 7-6. Clark Lang scored three goals for the Elks.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Eight members of the Brandon Figure Skating Club will leave next week for St. Catharines to compete in the Divisional Championships. They are: Diane Ogibowski, Tracy Singleton, Jeff Partrick, Brian Kemp, Shelly Mackin, Lynda Baker, Andrea Ferrier, Chad Johnston and Miles Kohan.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Brandon Wheat Kings centre Marty Murray was named the outstanding forward at the world junior hockey championship and a tournament all-star for Canada.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Tim Konsorada scored two goals and set up three others in a career-high five-point performance to spark the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 5-3 triumph over the Saskatoon Blades in front of 2,260 observers who braved -30 C temperatures to catch this heated WHL clash at the Keystone Centre.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Jessica Hutcheson scored 10 points to power the Neelin Spartans to a 30-21 triumph over the visiting Crocus Plainsmen in junior varsity girls action in the Brandon High School Basketball League.
