Brandon’s Graham Wright started his last Canada West track and field championship strong on Friday.

The University of Manitoba Bison claimed the gold medal in the weight throw, tossing the 35-pound weight a whopping 19.40 metres.

Wright saved his best for last, even though his top four throws were all good enough for gold ahead of Alberta’s Wesley Eze (18.19m).

Manitoba’s Joshua Suelzle joined his teammate on the podium, claiming bronze at 18.06m.

The Bisons men lead the team event with 65 points through six of 17 events, 25 points ahead of the Trinity Western Spartans.

The championships wrap up today, with a handful of Westman athletes vying for medals including Neepawa jumpers Daxx Turner and Lara Denbow.
