SHERWOOD PARK – Police have shot a person in the parking lot of an RCMP detachment outside Edmonton after they were spotted with what appeared to be a firearm.

RCMP say an incident at the detachment in Sherwood Park, Alta., resulted in at least one officer firing shots.

Alberta Health Services EMS says an adult was taken to hospital in serious condition.

It wasn’t immediately clear why the person was in the RCMP parking lot. 

RCMP say an internal review will look at training, policy, police response and the officer’s duty status.

Alberta’s independent police watchdog will investigate the shooting.
