Police speculate that a fire outside of Brandon Regional Health Centre’s emergency room on Sunday could have started from a cigarette butt.
Hospital security reported the fire, which was burning at the corner of the ramp outside of the emergency room entrance, at around 1 p.m.
The smoke and flames extended into the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system, Brandon Police Service said in a news release Monday.
Brandon Fire and Emergency Services responded and successfully contained the fire, police said.
The fire is considered non-suspicious at this time, and police speculated the fire may have started after a cigarette butt fell into a drain and lit debris on fire, BPS said in an email to the Sun.
