WEYBURN – RCMP in Saskatchewan are renewing calls for information about a shooting on a highway that left a woman dead.
Mounties are asking people and businesses, particularly those in the Weyburn area along highways 39 and 13, to check their video surveillance cameras for anything out of the ordinary, such as suspicious people or vehicles.
RCMP have said two women were in a Ford Explorer on Highway 39 around 8 p.m. Friday, driving near grain elevators toward Weyburn, when there was a loud crack, indicating someone had shot a firearm.
A 44-year-old woman from Weyburn who was a passenger in the SUV was injured and died at the scene.
Investigators have identified two separate vehicle owners who were travelling near the highway and say they are not connected to the suspicious death investigation.
Mounties have said the shooting may have been random.
“We are appealing to those individuals who may have been out in the area of Highway 39 northwest of Weyburn on Friday,” Insp. Ashley St. Germaine said in a news release Monday.
“Maybe you were hunting or target shooting, or perhaps you were with or know someone who was. Perhaps you recall a passing a vehicle on that road around 8:00 p.m. Maybe you have vehicle dash cam footage from traveling Highway 39 that night.
“Please give our investigators a call to assist us in getting answers for the victim’s family and community.”
