• 60 YEARS AGO — Juha Widing led his Wheat Kings teammates to a slim 7-6 vic- tory over the winless Saskatoon Blades. Widing had three goals and an assist, Billy Fairbairn had two goals and three assists and Erv Ziemer had four assists. Bob Young and Jack Wells both scored once.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Dale McMullin rebounded from being benched in Brandon’s last game to score two goals and add an assist in leading the Wheat Kings to a 6-5 victory over Regina Pats.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Dale Lewis was a one-man wrecking crew for the Virden Golden Bears as they downed the Neepawa Tigers 13-12 in a Rural Manitoba High School Football League playoff game. Lewis scored both touchdowns, the first when he combined with Darren Bradbury for an 80-yard pass-and-run and the second on a 14-yard run.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Jared Jacobson registered four assists as the Brandon Wheat Kings built a 4-0 lead and then held on for a 4-3 triumph over the Norman North Stars in Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League play at the Keystone Centre.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Jeff Topilko knew something had gone horribly wrong the second he slid into the boards. The 19-year-old Brandon Wheat Kings centre fractured his left fibula in three places and suffered torn ankle ligaments after crashing into the end boards

• 10 YEARS AGO — Madison McCallum of Skate Brandon earned a bronze medal at Skate Canada’s Central Ontario Octoberfest event in Barrie, Ont.
