CALGARY – Sentencing has been delayed for a Calgary man who pleaded guilty to causing a crash that killed a nine-year-old girl.
Duane Nepoose admitted earlier this year to dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, robbery and fleeing a police officer in the Boxing Day crash.
Court heard Nepoose stole a minivan and, as he was speeding through traffic, ran a red light and caused the crash that left Victoria Desjardins dead.
Seven others, including the girl’s mother and older sister, were hurt.
An agreed statement of facts says a police helicopter clocked Nepoose going 170 kilometres per hour.
Court heard a court-ordered forensic risk assessment for Nepoose will take at least another two months, delaying sentencing until 2026.
A sentencing date is to be set Nov. 13.
