REGINA – Police in Regina say a woman who disappeared two years ago is believed to be dead.
Deputy Chief Laurel Marshall says Nakita Jade Harris was last seen in October 2023 and was last heard from in November 2023; she was reported missing in April 2024.
Marshall says despite months of investigating, including multiple interviews and search warrants, there’s no new information about the 32-year-old’s whereabouts.
Marshall says nothing indicates Harris is alive, as the woman has not spoken with her family and her personal records and social media accounts are not active.
The officer says there’s no evidence suggesting foul play and that Harris remains on police’s long-term missing persons list.
Harris’s mother, Paula Murphy, says in a statement that she misses her daughter and hopes police can find her.
“Nakita, if you see this or hear this, please know that we love you and we are here for you,” Murphy said Thursday. “No matter what happens, we can get through it together.”
Murphy described her daughter as an artistic, strong-willed woman who wouldn’t have intentionally left her child in Regina.
Harris’s 12-year-old daughter said in a statement that Harris loved doing arts and crafts with her.
“My mom has been a huge part of my life and she always found a way to see me,” the girl said. “I would love if we could find her to ensure her safety.”
Marshall told reporters that Harris is considered a vulnerable person with mental health and addictions issues.
She said Harris would change her appearance frequently, wearing different wigs. She was last seen with black hair, hazel eyes and many tattoos.
Harris is described as five feet five inches tall, weighing 150 pounds with a medium build. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
