CALGARY – A Calgary man charged with abducting his son and disappearing across the globe for two years is expected in court for a bail hearing on Friday.
Muhammad Zia-Ur Rahman is charged with one count of parental abduction for allegedly taking his then-five-year-old son in December 2023.
Police say Rahman extensively planned the abduction, including forging documents and buying overseas property.
Investigators believe the pair had fled first to Turkey and then hopped to countries from Asia to the South Pacific, including Russia, Azerbaijan and Vanuatu.
Police say the boy, now seven, has since been reunited with his mother.
Rahman was captured last month at an airport in Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar.
