While the goalie fight at the end of the Brandon Wheat Kings’ 4-1 victory over the Regina Pats may have been popular with fans in attendance, it was less of a highlight at the Western Hockey League office.
Filip Ruzicka and Taylor Tabashniuk fought just after Brandon defenceman Daniil Skvortsov and Regina defenceman Jonas Kohn chucked the knuckles after the final whistle.
The Wheat Kings and Pats were both fined $1,000 for their second multiple fight situation of the season, and head coaches Marty Murray of the Wheat Kings and Brad Herauf of the Pats were fined $500 and suspended for one game due to the goalie fight.
It’s worth noting Murray and assistant coaches Del Pedrick and Mark Derlago were on the bench yelling at Ruzicka not to fight, but the head coach was held responsible for his player’s actions.
Brandon faces the Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday.
