CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA – Police in Calgary have charged one of their civilian staffers with using their database to seek out people for personal relationships.
Police say they executed a search warrant last month on the staffer’s phone and determined the personal information of four people was targeted and searched.
Investigators believe the illegal activities occurred over six months last year and that the staffer was seeking or sought to have personal relationships with the targets.
The four people who had their information accessed have been notified.
The staffer was arrested Tuesday and charged with nine counts under the Protection of Privacy Act.
Insp. Dehl Vella of the Calgary Police Service Professional Standards section says the force recognizes the seriousness of the charges and the impact on public trust.
