GRANDE PRAIRIE – Alberta RCMP say an Amber Alert for a six-year-old boy has been cancelled in the province but the child, spotted in British Columbia, remains missing.

They say officers continue to investigate the abduction of Lanakai Morrison.

The boy was taken Tuesday from the hamlet of Valhalla Centre, roughly 63 kilometres northwest of Grande Prairie, Alta., near the B.C. boundary.

It’s believed the child is with his mother, 35-year-old Krista Morrison, her partner, 35-year-old Daniel Ludwig, and four-year-old Karl Morrison.

Mounties said the boy was spotted Wednesday morning in Fort St. John, B.C., and there have been a number of sightings of him in that province.

The search was expanded to all of B.C. and into much of the Northwest Territories and the Yukon.

Alberta RCMP said late Friday afternoon that the alert was cancelled as “there’s no reasonable expectations the public, in Alberta, will be able to action the instructions in the alert.”

They did not provide details or answer phone calls seeking clarification.

Lanakai is described as white and having a slight build, light brown hair and brown eyes.

Police were initially looking for a black 2015 Toyota Tundra, but it was found by officers.

RCMP said it’s believed the couple changed vehicles and are driving a 2006 red Ford F350, with Alberta licence plate CXW8820.

They said people with information should call 911 and not approach the vehicle or suspects.
