WINNIPEG – Police say a veteran Winnipeg officer has been charged with sexual assault and other offences after allegedly breaking into a woman’s home and threatening to kill her.
The 20-year member of the force was taken into custody Wednesday after patrol officers responded to a domestic 911 call.
They say officers found a man assaulting a woman in the home and took him into custody.
The man in his 40s also faces charges related to choking, uttering death threats and breaking into a home to commit assault.
Police say they won’t release the name of the accused, who remains in custody, to protect the identity of the victim.
Police say they’ve notified the civilian director of the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba.
