MONTREAL – The Canadian Press decision desk is projecting Québec solidaire co-spokesperson Ruba Ghazal will win her Montreal-area riding of Mercier.

Ghazal was a founding member of the left wing sovereigntist party in 2006, alongside Françoise David and Amir Khadir.

She first entered the legislature when she won the riding in 2018.

She was re-elected in 2022.

Ghazal was born in Lebanon to a family of Palestinian refugees in 1977.

She arrived in Quebec at the age of 10 and grew up between Montreal and Laval.
