GLEICHEN – An Alberta police officer has been charged with assaulting a suspect in an RCMP detachment.
Alberta’s police watchdog says it happened when a woman arrested for mischief was being placed in a holding cell at the Gleichen detachment almost a year ago, on the night of Oct. 30, 2025.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team said that’s when the assault occurred.
On Thursday, police arrested Const. Marie-Helene Dupere and charged her with assault causing bodily harm.
She is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice at Siksika Nation on Nov. 26.
The watchdog agency investigates potential criminal offences involving police across Alberta.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Oct. 23, 2026.
