While we understand the desire for the city to catch up to its 10 comparator municipalities, we do take issue with the process and lack of consultation with downtown stakeholders. Alas, the decision has been made and that ship has sailed. Hopefully a lesson for future decisions like this that have impacts on users of the downtown, whether businesses, residents or customers.

As a group that is advocating to restore our core, we can’t agree enough with the opinion piece published in The Brandon Sun on Tuesday, Feb. 13, in which the writer states that “increasing fees for people to park will do little to entice more people to make the trip downtown, making it even more difficult to find workable solutions to its continued deterioration.”

The city predicts that it will collect $100,000 in additional revenue as a result of these fee hikes. We kindly ask that these additional funds be allocated to a reserve fund dedicated to downtown revitalization initiatives.
