Eager to come back to Clear Lake

I want to express my support for the sentiments expressed by W.E. Myers in Tuesday’s Brandon Sun. I am not a boat owner, but it was with a great deal of pleasure that I learned that sensible heads had prevailed at Parks Canada and that once again people will be able to use boats on Clear Lake.

We have already made plans to return to Riding Mountain National Park this coming summer and look forward to using the facilities on Clear Lake. This will no doubt include a boat tour on the lake on the Martese, as we do most summers.

To my knowledge, no one has ever said that zebra mussels are not a problem or that measures should not be taken to get rid of them wherever they exist. But once they invade a body of water, it is just about impossible to turn back time.

To my simple mind, banning boats on Clear Lake because of zebra mussels was almost as ridiculous as if someone banned access to Riding Mountain National Park so that Parks Canada could eradicate all mosquitoes. Zebra mussels and mosquitoes are scourges on humanity and we should do everything we can to control their spread, but total elimination is impossible.
