Opinion

Economic recovery is never an “overnight” miracle brought on by a newly elected government.

Mark Carney is probably one of the most intelligent financial minds of our time, and is dealing with the Trump era tariffs the only way he can — finding new markets.

It’s critical for our population (working class) that businesses have markets for their products — otherwise, layoffs occur. Yes, layoffs are happening already because of the Trump effect. Imagine how bad it would be if Mark Carney just sat in his office and did absolutely nothing.

That isn’t happening — he’s not on a world tour holiday at taxpayer expense like the uninformed claim. They’ve been brainwashed by extreme right media and political leaders like Pierre Poilievre. They accept anything that reinforces that narrative.

The issue lies with those same people being unwilling to give a new government a chance, and unwillingness to broaden their views. Anyone can do the latter, that’s easy. It takes time and work to expand one’s view, and most people aren’t willing to commit to either.

Personally, I was done with Justin Trudeau after voting for him twice. I had planned on voting either Conservative or NDP, most likely the latter. What changed my mind and many others? Enter Mark Carney, the obvious choice for a leader. If the Conservatives had him as leader, you can bet your bippy I would have voted Conservative hands down.

That is obvious quality competition, and Canadians quickly saw the obvious. That’s why Poilievre lost the federal election. He couldn’t compete against a guy like Mark Carney.

It’s easy to disagree, but based on what? The expectation of a miracle? That never happens in economics.

The absolute worst thing Canadians could do would be to vote in Poilievre in a spring election, when our PM is actively working on solutions.

Poilievre can’t compete with the PM. He has no real-world experience. Anyone with a glib tongue and negative divisive rhetoric can rile up the primitive deeper portions of our brain that use emotion rather than logic to make “conclusions.”

Poilievre reminds me of a snake-oil salesman. Big on words, poor on substance. That’s what Americans voted for, and now look at the mess down there. We don’t want to go in that direction. We do so at our own peril. Mark Carney is centre-right, not far left like Trudeau. Forget about the Liberal label, he’s doing what has to be done.

Conservatives should be happy about that.
