Another option? In my opinion, yes!
I have lived in the rural riding of Turtle Mountain (formerly Arthur-Virden) for the majority of my life.
Turtle Mountain, by many, is considered a “yellow dog” riding.
This has always been a concern of mine. I do not carry a card of any political party. I have never donated to a political party or a campaign. I have never voted for the party. I am a centrist. I vote for the candidate that I think has the same values as I do. The candidate that lives in my riding and has a passion for my riding. The candidate that will strive to make our already amazing riding even better.
I understand the importance of party unity. However, I still feel the every politician needs to remind themselves that they are elected to serve all of their constituents and not their party.
I’m my opinion it is time for a change. It is time for independent candidates to step forward. It is time for another option come election day.
Just a few reasons why I think this way. You do not have to follow the direction of a party. You do not have to support anything that you do not agree with. You can speak your mind using your own words. You can speak loud for your riding. You can support a good idea no matter where it comes from.
And most importantly, I would hope that an independent would communicate and listen to questions and concerns from ALL constituents. I would hope they would reply to texts, emails and phone calls from ALL constituents of the riding and not just card-carrying donors.
I truly hope that there are individuals that will seriously consider running as an independent in their riding in the next election.
I am optimistic and hopeful that there will be an independent running in Turtle Mountain.
