Opinion

Hey there, time traveller!

I experienced a rather disturbing sense of déjà vu reading the article entitled “Selinger Brings Message To Brandon” (Aug. 31), that reported that Progressive Conservative Leader Hugh McFadyen would be in Brandon on Wednesday “… to attend an invite-only forum on economic development hosted by local party members …”

Is this not the same type of exclusionary campaign screening that Mr. Harper found himself in so much trouble over during the federal election campaign?

Why the need to so tightly control access to Conservative leaders? Why would I vote for someone I can’t even sit down and discuss the issues with?

I don’t think Prof. Saunders needs to worry about the Tory party “…burn[ing] up too much goodwill from the voters by giving them too much information right from the get go …”

The only information voters will get from invited press is a sanitized version presented to a Tory-friendly crowd that they control.
