Hey there, time traveller!

Prof. Kelly Saunders’ comments in the Brandon Sun’s article, “Decision Cuts Region Out Of Power Circles, Professor Suggests,” (Saturday, Jan. 13) on the new provincial cabinet appointments are nothing more than a political rant, and certainly not the unbiased observations of a political scientist.
They are disturbingly personal with respect to Drew Caldwell, and unsubstantiated rhetoric concerning Premier Greg Selinger’s intentions.
Perhaps most telling is Prof. Saunders’ apparent approval of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s appointment of an unelected Montreal Conservative into the Senate and federal cabinet. (He lost the next real election.)
Does she advocate this undemocratic practice be applied more generally? Perhaps she can talk Mr. Harper into putting Mr. Tweed, our MP, into cabinet so that we have some federal clout, or should he just appoint some local Tory without the trouble of an election?
As for Mr. Caldwell, he knows that Brandon has been well served by the present government and, notwithstanding Prof. Saunders’ disparaging remarks, he continues to work diligently to represent Brandon’s real interests — not just some hypothetical political interests.
Premier Selinger and Mr. Caldwell have made Brandon a priority — a new hospital, cancer treatment facilities, Assiniboine Community College expansion, bridges, not to mention flood protection.
Like Saunders, I have a well-established bias, but I am not hiding mine under the guise of academia.
