Opinion

Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 09/07/2022 (1326 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.

I am writing with regard to the Brandon Sun articles of June 30, 2022, entitled, “Departures prove costly for city, BSD” and “Former superintendent leads BSD earnings in 2021.”

These articles were about a school division employee receiving a large sum of money, while only working a short time.

My concerns have nothing to do with this employee’s confidentiality. My concern is the school division hiring procedures, policies and contracts. Are things in place to review this money spent?

Does this happen often that an employee ceases to work and still gets a wage? How many positions could have been paid for with this money?

Doesn’t our local newspaper and we taxpayers deserve more than “no comment” from these elected officials about this huge expenditure? I thank the Brandon Sun for bringing this to our attention. Isn’t this how democracy works? We should be able to question, discuss, debate about the things that happen in this great city.
