How slow do we go?
I heard something interesting today. The section of road on 18th Street South where they had just completed putting in lights and paving, from the Empire Theatre up to usually the 80 km/h sign, has been 60 km/h but people are being pulled over and ticketed for going 60 because it is now 50. Unfortunately the sign post doesn’t have a kilometre sign on it and they never posted that the kilometres were going to change there.
If you mean what you say, then do the right thing
Finance Minister Stan Struthers, if you truly care about families within our province and if you feel that they truly come first within your government, then please reinstate the Lord’s Day Act on Sundays. This will prove to me that you truly mean what you say when you state that your government puts families first and that your government puts family’s priorities first. Nothing less than this will be satisfactory, in my opinion, if you truly mean what you say.
Casino again?
Lord help us, here comes the casino debate again. The blame has to fall on the NDP politicians who have had years to make this work. So many years. And what about the Westman community — Brandon would probably be best — and all the First Nations who have lost out on all that potential money that could be used for so many good things. Can’t we just get the thing built, please?
Was Editor’s Notebook too much for some Sun readers?
James O’Connor writes a travelogue column about hookers — complete with pictures. Does he not have a clue who the Sun’s readers are?
Get with the program
The City of Brandon is leading a good example by getting rid of plastic water bottles. Yet within the city limits, our major health-care provider continues to allow Styrofoam products, which are detrimental to our environment. Does anyone recall that Sunday was Earth Day?
We support you — return the favour
I am wondering if someone could explain to me why businesses in Brandon expect the people of Brandon and area should support them, when they in turn hire someone from Winnipeg to do upgrades or remodelling? My family and myself have always supported a local restaurant, but now I will rethink supporting them. I believe with all the business they get from all the local people who support them each and every day that they should have supported local companies.
