What’s the big deal?

I cannot understand the big hubbub over the one per cent PST hike. That’s one whole penny extra on a dollar that is used to repair and rebuild bridges that are required, to build new schools to stop overcrowding, and smaller classes. Also to fight large floods in the future. Another 2011 flood would cost much more than building the dikes. After the damage from the floods the past few years, what government would not have a deficit? Our government could have just sat on its hands and done nothing for the people, like the Harper government did for years, but our government stepped in to help the people of Manitoba. I don’t really care what party was in government, they all would have done the same, hopefully, if they cared about the people. I shouldn’t say that because in my opinion, Stephen Harper and Brian Pallister appear to be interchangeable.

Can’t blame Filmon for this

Mr. Selinger apologizes for laying eight per cent PST on Manitobans when he really wanted nine per cent. What is Mr. Selinger and the NDP going to do if provincial public service unions get their wish passed in the legislature? It will put private companies in a bad situation. Remember, this isn’t the ’90s … Gary Filmon did not do this. This is the NDP doing this in 2016.

Better start saving

It is clear that the school board is not going to worry about the taxpayer. All that is left for us to help the cause now is to save our Campbell’s soup labels.

Pay a fee to attend Harrison

Harrison is a publicly-funded, private school. Lotteries, lineups — boo hoo. An elitist school that the taxpayer funds. I think at the very least people should have to pay a legitimate fee — maybe $500 per student.

Thanks for a great skate

Thanks for the outdoor oval skating place. We just finished skating there and it was fresh ice. I thought it might be poor but it was excellent! Thanks to the City of Brandon and whoever it is that is responsible for that. It is just wonderful.

Just part of the cost of eating out downtown

For the person complaining about the restaurant downtown not providing free parking, do you honestly think there is room for the business for such a endeavour? Maybe rooftop parking? Let’s get real! Plus, if you can afford to eat out, you can afford to put a little bit of coin in the meter.

Administration fees everywhere

I just want to comment on the person who was complaining about the administration charge on their water bill. I checked my hydro bill and there is an admin charge called “basic charge” at $7.57 per month. The definition of “basic charge” is listed on the back of your hydro bill. Having said all that, I did check my MTS phone bill, which is less detailed, so I’m assuming they have an admin charge — they are just not showing it.
