And the Oscar goes to …
Progressive Conservative Leader Brian Pallister for his recent ad depicting him as just a poor sharecropper/teacher who understands all the struggles that Manitobans are facing today. After filming the ad, Mr. Pallister returned home to his multimillion-dollar mansion on Wellington Crescent. I, for one, seriously doubt that Brian Pallister and his Conservative agenda — which is the same as the Stephen Harper agenda — will benefit anybody but the richest one per cent.
Who can afford these increases?
The 5.4 per cent property tax increase being implemented by the Brandon School Division board of trustees is totally unreasonable. This increase along with an assessment increase of more than two per cent results in them having eight per cent increase in revenue. I know of no property taxpayer who had an eight per cent increase in their revenue during the past year. It is sad that our school board does not take its financial responsibility seriously and consider the ability of the local property taxpayer to pay their budget increase of an extra $80 plus. This is totally unacceptable.
Let us plug a twoonie or two
Regarding the downtown not providing free parking in front of restaurants. I don’t think it is a case of having free parking. The meters are only for two-hour parking and who carries pockets full of change these days? Maybe they need to make it so you could put twoonies in so you don’t have to be running in and out all the time plugging meters. And rooftop parking in Brandon is just not going to happen.
