Raise the bar Getting back to drug addiction problems in Brandon, I don’t think anybody purposely goes on a quest to become a meth addict. In most cases, there are probably underlying issues in place that put a person on the devastating path of drug addiction. These people need help, not our scorn and verbal abuse. More importantly, I want to know why the dealers who sell the meth, the fencers who exchange stolen property for drugs and the meth cookers continue to operate with apparent impunity. Sure, occasionally a small-time dealer gets picked up. Big deal! Is there a problem with law enforcement? Is it the legal system? Why is it so hard to make these individuals and groups, the ones who are the source of the problem, accountable for what they are doing to our community? A lot of people are getting fed up with this. In their defence, I am sure local authorities feel they are tackling this issue to the best of their ability, but it’s not good enough. It’s time to raise the bar, and get things done.

Proud mom moment

I’m so happy for Heather Stefanson celebrating Tommy’s win because I believe it’s the last win in her future career as premier.

CP Rail strike

To the reader who suggests that CP Rail workers should wait another six to 12 months before negotiating a new contract — why should they wait? They have already been six months without a contract. What will be different six or 12 months from now? Our world has been a relative disaster the past couple of years and doesn’t appear to be improving soon. What specific conditions would you approve them trying to get a fair wage increase to keep up with inflation?
