Hey there, time traveller!

At the Skin & Vein Centre, nothing is more important than the health and wellbeing of its customers.
That’s why the centre, located at 1300 18th St., has put hard work into making sure its procedures are safe and sanitary during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Barb Kelleher said that once the pandemic started, the centre closed for nearly seven weeks and came back with a full protocol for how to keep providing service safely.
She said the closure was nerve-wracking at first but then she started to think about what service would be like once they reopened.
The centre consulted with medical professionals in other disciplines, their colleagues at other cosmetic practices and physicians to get an idea of what safe service during the pandemic would look like.
“A bunch of esthetics physicians, mostly in Europe but a couple in the Americas, got together and wrote a really long consensus document on how you would want to do things,” Dr. Kelleher said. “That’s how we came up with most of what we wanted to do.”
Some of the health precautions they’re taking involve requiring patients to wear masks while inside, only letting people inside the building when it’s time for their appointment and asking screening questions before patients are treated.
Both staff and customers have their temperatures taken before they’re allowed in the building and staff are tested again at lunchtime as a precaution. Everyone coming in the building is asked to wash their hands before working or being treated.
Patients must have their nose and face covered unless that part of the body is being worked on. This is a strict rule — if someone says they’re not comfortable with masking up, they’re asked to come back when they are.
Equipment and rooms are sanitized between patients and the floor is sanitized twice a day, at lunch and at the end of the day.
Because staff have been carrying out these procedures since May, everyone knows what they’re doing and have just incorporated extra health measures into their daily routine.
For laser procedures, staff wear masks. Dr. Kelleher wears eye protection when treating customers. When she’s done treating a patient, she makes sure they have a clear path to the exit where they won’t run into other patients.
Several machines have been moved to common areas to reduce traffic to some rooms and promote physical distancing.
All staff have started wearing scrubs at the office and change into regular clothes before leaving to make sure they’re not bringing anything home to their families.
“It’s a little bit of a nuisance, but it’s the safest thing to do,” Dr. Kelleher said.
Even though the region has had the code orange health restrictions removed, the team at Skin & Vein Clinic is still meeting the more stringent standards because they want to make absolutely sure everyone is safe.
Whether you’re coming in for a cool sculpting session, a botox injection or for one of the many laser treatments the clinic offers, you can be sure that the Skin & Vein Centre takes your health seriously.
