BOYS

BRANDON WHEAT KINGS

The first-place Wheat Kings (12-0-0) topped the Southwest Cougars in their only Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League action over the weekend.

On Friday, Luke Lepper, Brady Turko, Ekam Dhaliwal, Nash Henwood, Cole Temple, Easton Odut, Dylan Schrader and Colten Worthington all scored for Brandon, with Kelby Diehl replying for Southwest.

KC Couckuyt made 21 saves for Brandon, with Micky Gross blocking 29 shots for Southwest.

The Wheat Kings have a busy week ahead, with games against the Pembina Valley Hawks at the Access Event Centre in Morden on Wednesday at 8 p.m., the Winnipeg Wild at the BellMTS Iceplex on Friday at 7:15 p.m., and the Winnipeg Bruins at J&G Homes Arena on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

SOUTHWEST COUGARS

The seventh-place Cougars (7-5-2) lost their only game of the weekend against Brandon on Friday.

The Cougars have a four-game week ahead, which starts when they take to the ice against the Parkland Rangers at Credit Union Place in Dauphin on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. They have a home-and-home series against the Winnipeg Thrashers, at the Gateway Recreation Centre on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday at the Souris Glenwood Memorial Complex on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

They finish up on Sunday with a visit to the Access Event Centre in Morden at 2:30 p.m.

YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS

The third-place Chiefs (8-3-3) swept the 12th-place Norman Northstars (2-13-1) in the C.A. Nesbitt Arena in Thompson. On Sunday, Bryce Bryant, Rory Poole and Rylan Gage scored as the Chiefs emerged with a 3-1 victory.

Jase Wareham made 33 saves for Yellowhead, with Nate Grant blocking 41 shots for Norman.

On Saturday, Rylan Gage gave Yellowhead an early lead, only to see Norman score four times before the period ended. Gage scored again 10 seconds into the second period, and a pair of goals by Rory Poole and singles from Bo Tibbatts, Dylan Miko and Bryce Bryant led the Chiefs to a 7-4 victory.

Connor Dawson and Jase Wareham combined to make 26 saves for Yellowhead, with Nate Grant turning aside 52 shots for Norman.

The Chiefs face a busy weekend, with a pair of games against the Interlake Lightning at the Teulon-Rockwood Arena in Teulon, and the Winnipeg Thrashers at the Shoal Lake Communiplex on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

PARKLAND RANGERS

The 11th-place Rangers (3-11-0) split a pair of close games against the fifth-place Pembina Valley Hawks (8-3-2) at Credit Union Place in Dauphin.

On Sunday afternoon, Madden Murray and Dru Mushumanski evened the score at 2-2 for the Rangers, but Cedrik Robidoux’s goal with 75 seconds remaining gave the Hawks a 3-2 victory.

Kyler Swanton made 33 saves for Parkland, with Raiden LeGall blocking 35 shots for Pembina Valley.

On Saturday evening, the Hawks jumped into a 2-0 lead, only to have Murray snipe twice and Tavyn Boychuk and Luke Myhre as the Rangers won 4-3.

Chase Glover made 27 saves for Parkland, with Bryson Yaschyshyn blocking 33 shots for Pembina Valley.

The Rangers host the Cougars on Tuesday, and then visit the Kenora Thistles at the Kenora Recreation Centre on Saturday and Sunday.

GIRLS

WESTMAN WILDCATS

The first-place Wildcats (9-2-0) topped the second-place Winnipeg Ice (8-2-0) on Sunday as they won a pair of games over the weekend in the Manitoba Female Hockey League U18 AAA.

On Sunday at the Bell MTS Iceplex, Hayley Kolosky scored twice, with singles coming from Kelsey Huibers, Sophia Anderson and Karlyn Gudz.

Grace Glover made 36 saves for Westman.

On Friday, Sophia Anderson’s hat trick paced the Wildcats in a 3-2 victory over the Pembina Valley Hawks at the Access Event Center in Morden.

Grace Glover made 20 saves for Westman.

The Wildcats play once next weekend, against the Hawks in Hartney on Sunday at 1 p.m.

YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS

The fourth-place Chiefs (6-3-1) lost 4-1 to the third-place Winnipeg Avros (7-2-0) at the Shoal Lake Communiplex on Sunday in their only action on the weekend.

Lexy Waddell scored for the Chiefs, with Natalie Rampton taking the loss.

The Chiefs head to Morden to meet the Hawks on Saturday at 5:15 p.m., and visit the Avros at Seven Oaks Arena on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
