The Brandon Sun sports department is putting together the finalists for the H.L. (Krug) Crawford Award and the Mike Jones Award for Westman’s athlete and team of the year.
Nominations can be submitted by sending an email to sports@brandonsun.com
The finalists for both awards will be announced at the end of December, with the winners being revealed in the opening week of January.
Vincent Massey Vikings quarterback Justin Sharp won last year’s H.L. (Krug) Crawford Award for Westman’s athlete of the year.
Golfer Austin Dobrescu, Canadian national team goaltender Kristen Campbell, Manitoba Bisons track and field athlete Lara Denbow and trapshooter Pat Lamont are among the recent recipients of the award, which was first awarded to Jack Matheson in 1958.
The Brandon Wheat Kings earned the Mike Jones Award in 2021.
The Assiniboine Community College Cougars women’s hockey program, the Brandon University Bobcats men’s volleyball team, the Minnedosa Chancellors/Rivers Rams girls’ rugby squad and the Neelin Spartans boys’ volleyball and basketball teams have all won the award in the past five years.
Don Barr’s curling rink was the first team of the year winner in 1974.
