Oak River’s John Paddock is retiring from hockey after being involved in the sport for 39 years.

The 69-year-old had spent the last nine years with the Regina Pats as head coach and general manager. He will remain with the team as a senior advisor

Prior to joining the Pats in 2014, Paddock had won five Calder Cup titles as a player and a coach in the American Hockey League. He was also a head coach and a general manager for the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets, Phoenix Coyotes and Ottawa Senators.

Paddock also suited up in 87 NHL regular season games for the Washington Capitals, Quebec Nordiques and Philadelphia Flyers from 1975 to 1983.

The Pats also announced on Monday that Alan Millar will be taking over as general manager.

Millar, 56, had spent the last two years as the director of player personnel for Hockey Canada’s program of excellence. He was previously the general manager of the Moose Jaw Warriors for nine seasons.

The team is expected to announce Paddock’s replacement behind the bench in the coming days.
