MACEY McIVOR
• NUMBER: 16.
• AGE: 14.
• HOMETOWN: Brandon.
• PARENTS: Lori and Donovan.
• SIBLINGS: Anna.
• POSITIONS PLAYED THIS SEASON: First base and designated player.
• BATS: Left.
• THROWS: Left.
• FIRST YEAR IN SOFTBALL: 2012, four years old.
• YEARS IN THE MAGIC PROGRAM IN ALL AGE GROUPS: Two.
• WHAT ARE THE BEST PARTS OF YOUR GAME?
There are a few best parts of my game. When my bat contacts the ball on the sweet spot, the ball will go very far. I think that is my best quality in softball. I am also good at first base defence. For example, picking up a scoop or making a long stretch. Those are my good qualities.
• WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT PLAYING SOFTBALL?
Softball has been my favourite sport for a long time, there are many different things I love about it. I wanted to be on a competitive team that played high level softball. I just want to succeed in the sport and so does everyone else on my team. That is why we all work hard at the sport because we love it.
• WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THIS YEAR’S MAGIC TEAM?
This year’s Magic team has been one of my favourite teams to play on. I have known everyone for a long time and know everyone through different things. I love how close we all are and how everyone is such good friends. I can tell I am going to be friends with these girls for a long time.
• WHAT DOES THIS MAGIC TEAM DO WELL ON THE FIELD?
This year’s team is full of multi-talented athletes, and we are good at multiple things. Our offence and batting are very strong and powerful when we are on. Our pitching is also excellent. They throw very hard and accurately.
• WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES FOR THE TEAM GOING INTO NATIONALS?
This year our team is hosting the 2023 u15 female softball nationals. Which is very exciting that we get to host it in Brandon. I have a bunch of family and friends coming to watch me play. The experience of playing teams from all around Canada is very cool as well.
• WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOST AT NATIONALS?
In November 2022, my grandpa passed away from cancer. We were very close. I only had six days with him before he passed away. The last thing he told me was to hit dingers this year in ball because he knew he wasn’t able to watch it or be there. The thing I’m most excited about Nationals is to hit dingers off people from all over Canada because I know he will be with me.
