Hey there, time traveller!

The Brandon Wheat Kings solved their overage issue on Thursday, sending forward Dawson Pasternak to the Victoria Royals for a conditional draft pick.
The terms of the conditional pick haven’t been released.
The 20-year-old Winnipeg product, who joined the Wheat Kings at the Western Hockey League trade deadline in January, was battling back issues and hadn’t dressed in the pre-season or regular season. There is no clear timetable for his return.

Brandon head coach and general manager Marty Murray said it was more uncertainty than the club was willing to accept.
“It was something we thought about and talked about for a long time,” Murray said. “I think with Dawson having some medical history, we just felt it was a risk that we couldn’t take with him not being an every-night player for us.
“There’s no question he’s a very good player and very talented but those 20-year-old spots — we have all of our 20-year-olds slotted into such valuable roles on the team — I think just the uncertainty of where he was at not only right now but throughout the season scared us off a little.”
The deadline for WHL teams to reduce to three overagers on their roster is Oct. 10.
Coming into the season, Pasternak looked to have his spot locked down but injured his back in the summer.
Since overage forward Brett Hyland was at Washington Capitals camp with the possibility of turning pro, Brandon protected itself by acquiring overage forward Jayden Wiens from the Saskatoon Blades on Sept. 20 for a third-round pick in 2025 and a fourth-round pick in 2027.
The five-foot-nine, 150-pound product of Carrot River, Sask., has two goals and four assists in six games and is tied with fellow overager Kayden Sadhra-Kang for the team lead in penalty minutes with 14.
“Jayden is a leader in every aspect,” Murray said. “He’s a gritty player who has heart and skill in his game and plays in all situations. We’re getting him into a role on the (penalty kill) but he’s done a really good job in all situations.
“He’s an April-type player we feel and will get better as the year goes.”
Hyland subsequently returned from Washington on Sept. 26, and has two goals and two assists in four games, while Sadhra-Kang has a goal and two assists in six games while helping anchor Brandon’s top pairing with Quinn Mantei.
Pasternak was acquired from the Portland Winterhawks on Jan. 10 with a conditional fourth-round pick for the rights to Colin Frank, a second-round pick in 2026 and a sixth-round pick in 2025.
In Brandon’s other deals since last season ended:
• Defenceman Logen Hammett, 20, was sent to the Vancouver Giants on May 18 for a fourth-round pick in 2024.
• Forward prospect Hayden Chaloner, 18 was traded to Victoria on Aug. 2 for a ninth-round pick in 2026.
• Defenceman Zach Turner, 19, was dealt to the Swift Current Broncos on Sept. 27 for a sixth-round pick in 2024.
The Wheat Kings also reassigned defenceman Eastyn Mannix, who reported to the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Whitecourt Wolverines, and goaltender Nick Jones.
In a more significant trade on Thursday, the Moose Jaw Warriors made a blockbuster move with the Cougars.
Moose Jaw picked up fourth-year defenceman Kalem Parker, who turns 19 next week, 19-year-old forward Brayden Schuurman and an eighth-round pick in 2027 in return for 18-year-old forward Ben Riche, first-round picks in 2024 and 2026, a second-round pick in 2025, a third-round pick in 2027 and a fifth-round pick in 2026.
Schuurman contributed 50 goals and 45 assists in 134 games for the Royals while Parker is a prospect of the Minnesota Wild.
In previous deals this week:
• On Monday, the Medicine Hat Tigers sent 18-year-old Cru Hanas to the Seattle Thunderbirds for 16-year-old defenceman Reily Pickford and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2025.
• On Tuesday, the Tigers dispatched 19-year-old defenceman Braeden Wynne to the Thunderbirds for a ninth-round pick in 2024.
• On Wednesday, the Warriors dealt overage forward Eric Alarie to the Thunderbirds for a fifth-round pick in 2024 and a third-round pick in 2027.
ICINGS: The Wheat Kings return to action on Saturday when they host the Calgary Hitmen.
