An 11-point performance over three Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League games garnered Jaxon Jacobson CCM hockey player of the week honours.
The Brandon Wheat Kings forward scored five goals and added six assists in a stretch of three games, all victories. With his 11-point weekend, the 14-year-old 10th grader moved into second-place in league scoring with 25 points after only nine games.
His scoring prowess included the game winner in overtime facing the Winnipeg Wild; a five-point performance against the Eastman Selects; and three more points battling the Interlake Lightning. Jacobson was drafted fifth overall by the Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL draft this past summer.
He recently captained Team Manitoba at the WHL Cup in Alberta, where his team won its first ever gold medal.
In the Manitoba Female Hockey League U18 AAA, Grade 11 student Avary Lazarenko of the Winnipeg Ice was named player of the week after earning a pair of assists in each of the team’s three wins.
The goalie of the week is Grade 12 student Rachel Halldorson of the Interlake Lightning. The Lundar product, who attended the U18 national championship, made 33 saves in a 3-2 victory over the Pembina Valley Hawks on Friday and stopped all 47 shots in a 2-0 shutout over the Central Plains Capitals.
