It was a second period coach Tony Bertone would rather forget.
Up 2-1 after 20 minutes on the road to Northern Ontario, the previously undefeated Assiniboine Community College Cougars dropped a 5-2 decision Friday night to the Sault College Sabres.
“We had a bad second period and we just gave up an open net goal in the third,” said coach Tony Bertone. “We’re looking forward to our second game (facing Sault College) Saturday night.”
Mya Pearce and Kasey Fouillard, on the power play, scored for the Cougars, who fired 21 shots at Sabres goalie Cassidy Dobson.
Sabres forward Emily Moore scored twice, including the game-winner which was her 20th of the season, when the Sabres tallied three unanswered goals in the middle period.
Geneva Penner took the loss in net, facing 28 Sault College shots.
Currently, both teams are ranked No. 1 in their respective divisions in the American Collegiate Hockey Association and are expected to face each other this spring at nationals.
