Playing solidly for the Brandon Wheat Kings in the U15 AAA Manitoba Female Hockey League since day one, goalie Shannon Hees has become a reliable netminder for coach Karissa Kirkup.

In three recent games, she kept the Yellowhead Chiefs off the scoreboard in regulation time, but Brandon fell 1-0 in a shootout.

She followed this up with 52 minutes of scoreless play in a 2-1 loss to the Westman Wildcats after coming off the bench to replace the starter after eight minutes of play.

Hees then helped her second-place team to a 3-2 shootout win facing the Central Plains Capitals to improve to 15-9-4 in the seven-team league.

Her play in those games earned Hees the weekly goalie honour.

Rookie rearguard Rose Cochrane garnered the weekly player honour following her play not only on the blueline, but she also scored the only goal in a 1-0 shootout victory facing Brandon.

The rookie blue-liner plays in all key situations for the sixth-place Chiefs thanks to her hockey smarts. She’s a calculated player who reads the ice well, according to the coach. With the win Yellowhead improved to 7-15-2.
