IN LOCAL HISTORY

• 60 YEARS AGO — Marv Robinson scored with 30 seconds left to lift Elks past Laurels 5-4 in juvenile hockey action at the Wheat City Arena. The goal snapped the Laurels’ 12-game winning streak.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Brandon Travellers nipped West Kildonan North Stars 4-3 in an MJHL game. The victory moved Brandon back into first place in the North Division. Gil McNeil scored two goals for Brandon and Bob Young and Murray Good got singles.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Jim Feser and Rob Grealey combined for 47 points to lead Assiniboine Community College to an 87-60 exhibition men’s basketball victory over Kam Lung Dragons. Feser had 27, while Grealey added 20.

• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings scored five times in the third period to beat the host Kenora Stars 7-4 in Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League play on Sunday. Trailing 4-2 after two periods, the Wheat Kings got two goals from Tyler Dittmer in the third period plus markers from Shaun Earl, Ryan White and Matt Ostash to pick up the win.
