• 60 YEARS AGO — Nelson Kreager and his rink of Jim Stevens, Len Allan and Jim Mathison of Hamiota pulled off a spectacular shot against Jack Suter to win the grand aggregate honours in Virden’s 65th annual men’s curling bonspiel.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Shirley Bettle fashioned a 3,370 pin total to win the Brandon women’s 10-pin bowling scratch championship held during the weekend at Recreation Lanes. Bettle edged Hope Linski by 124 pins.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Cathy Gamey scored five goals and added three assists to lead Strathclair to a 10-6 win over Brandon in the opening ringette game at the Westman Winter Games.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Wes Hildebrant scored a game-high 16 points to spark the Crocus Plainsmen to a 35-14 victory faceing the visiting Vincent Massey Vikings in a Westman High School Basketball League junior varsity boys’ game.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Colin Campbell and Carson McMillan both scored twice to lead the Crocus Plainsmen past the Major Pratt Trojans in a Westman High School Hockey League game in Russell.
• 10 YEARS AGO — After weighing both volleyball and basketball offers at the CIS level, 17-year-old Neelin Spartans standout Paige Thomson has committed to the University of Victoria Vikes women’s basketball team for the 2014-15 Canada West conference season.
