Kiera Griffin posted 17 points as the Crocus Plainsmen opened their Java Jam varsity girls’ basketball tournament with a 56-41 win over the Selkirk Royals at Crocus on Thursday.
Rebecca Alebiosu Adiamo added 13 points for the Plainsmen while Taylor Jack led the Royals with 17.
The Vincent Massey Vikings lost their opener 73-48 to the Sisler Spartans as Kypling Black had nine points for Massey.
Ann Celeste led SIsler with 20 points.
In JV action, Ashley Sullivan led the Vikings to a 50-18 win over the Plainsmen with 11 points.
Courtney Giesbrecht had six for Crocus.
Nadine Jaccoud put up 11 points to pace the Neelin Spartans past the Sisler freshman squad 40-24.
The event continues today and ends on Saturday.
