IN LOCAL HISTORY

• 60 YEARS AGO — Eva Cheavins of Brandon and her rink of Mel Johnson, Mary Berry and Isabelle Gerrier won the challenge event and grand aggregate hon- ours in the Virden Ladies’ Bonspiel, defeating Audrey Drysdale of Cromer in the final.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Bernard Williams scored four goals in leading Brandon Toyota to a 7-2 victory over Kiwanis in Brandon Minor Hockey Association midget play. Rick Binkley, Scott Duncan and Bill Martin chipped in with singles for the winners, while Peter Stewart and Ken Bridger replied for Kiwanis.

• 40 YEARS AGO — First St. Plaza defeated the Stray Cats 2-1 in overtime to win the Brandon Women’s Broomball League championship. Shawne Peterson scored both goals for the winners, while Sandy Lacquement replied for the Stray Cats.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Chris Cloud scored twice as the Yellowhead Chiefs wrapped up the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League regular season with a 5-4 win over the Central Plains Capitals. Shane Jury, Patrick Flynn and Brad Lewis also scored for the Chiefs, who finished the campaign in eighth place at 15-20-3-2.
