A 10-year-old member of the Brandon Bluefins Swim Club continues to make waves in the pool.
This time it was during the Manitoba Open winter junior short course swim meet held at the Sportsplex pool.
Halin Li medalled in all seven of his races, earning gold in his 50 back, 50 breast, 50 free and 100 breast races during the three-day event.

He also earned silver in the 10 and younger age class in his 50 fly, 100 free and 200 free races.
The Bluefins had 14 swimmers in the pool, and they combined for 23 top-three finishes at a meet featuring more than 140 competitors.
In the girls 11 and 12 age class, 11-year-old Ceinwyn Griffith collected four medals. She was golden in the 100 individual medley (IM) and 200 breast races, while she earned silver in the 50 and 100 breast races.
Li’s older brother Jialin also medalled in all seven of his scheduled races. The only medal he did not win was a silver. He picked up gold in his 200 IM, 50, 100 and 200 free races, while his bronze medals in the pool in the 50 and 100 breast and 50 fly races.
Griffith and Halin Li also recorded their AA swim times to qualify for the Man/Sask inter-provincial championships being hosted by the Goldfins Swim Club in Saskatoon from March 7 to 10.
Besides qualifying for a road trip to Saskatchewan next month, Halin Li also set four more records. Three of them he initially set this past December during the Prairie Winter International swim meet and the Bison Racing League and Spring Invitational in November.
In his 50 free race, Li improved his time from 32.87 seconds to 32.78. At the same meet in December, he eclipsed a record in the 50 back race set on Dec 15, 1993 by Paul Groves, who was timed in 38.29 seconds. Li touched in 38.13 seconds.

His records set in November 2023, Li improved his previous record in the 50 breast from 43.09 to 41.69. In his 50 fly, he shaved his previous time of 38.75 to 37.79.
Bluefins coach Barb Fay said her young swimmer is focused on race day, and swims well against his opponents in the 10-and-younger class.
