From gold and blue to green, Yellowhead Chiefs forward Mia McGregor will be changing hockey jerseys this fall.
The five-foot-seven forward — third in team scoring with 12 goals and 10 assists in 28 games — has signed with the Queens to play hockey in Alberta this fall at Red Deer Polytechnic.
She will be the second Manitoban on the current roster, joining rookie Hayley Kolosky, who played for the Westman Wildcats last season.
From Waskada, McGregor’s offensive totals for the 2023-24 season included 17 goals and 31 points in 45 tournament and league games. During her rookie 2022-23 season, in 51 games she scored 16 goals and finished with 27 points.
While she enjoys playing physical in the U18 AAA Manitoba Female Hockey League, she only spent six minutes in the penalty box playing for the fourth-place Chiefs this past season.
Before departing for Alberta, McGregor and her teammates open the MFHL playoffs on Feb. 22 when the Chiefs welcome the Winnipeg Avros to Shoal Lake for a game at 7:30 p.m.
