• 60 YEARS AGO — Charles Howatt of Glenboro and his rink of Terry Cline, Murray Coates and Carol Barr took top honours in the Tiger Hills school division bonspiel.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Ken Garland posted a 24-game total of 4,388 pins to capture the Brandon 10-Pin Bowling Association scratch championship at Thunderbird Bowl. Garland edged Bob Shinske, who wound up 48 pins behind at 4,340.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Both Crocus Plainsmen and Vincent Massey Vikings advanced in the Tri-school junior varsity boys high school basketball tournament. Mike Stark scored 20 points sparking the host Plainsmen to a 78-49 victory over Westwood Warriors. At Massey, Rob Derksen had 18 points for the Vikings in a 75-37 win over Sturgeon Creek Schooners.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Keith Vassell of the Brandon University Bobcats was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference player of the week. Vassell scored 54 points in a weekend home-and-home split with the Winnipeg Wesmen.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Rodney White scored one goal and set up the other three to lead the Neepawa Tigers to a 4-2 victory over the Vincent Massey Vikings in the Westman High School Hockey League playoffs.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Shane Levandosky and Trent Nelson each scored twice as they helped the Neepawa Tigers force a third and deciding game in their Westman High School Hockey League quarter-final at the Optimist Arena by beating the host Vincent Massey Vikings 6-3.
