Brandon’s U15 AAA Wheat Kings are on to the second round in the Winnipeg U15 AAA Hockey League.

The first-place Wheat Kings (29-2-1-0) swept the eighth-place Winnipeg Wild Gold (15-12-2-3) in the best-of-five quarterfinals, and now face the fourth-place Winnipeg Bruins Black (22-5-1-4) in the semifinal.

In the clinching game on Sunday at Hockey For All Centre in Winnipeg, Hudson Champagne tied it in the first period, Talon Scinocca tied it in the second period, and Scinocca’s second goal proved to be the game-winner early in the third period. Reid Nicol and Crew Elder added insurance goals in a 5-2 victory. Landon McGregor made 26 saves.

In Saturday’s game at J&G Homes Arena, Champagne, Nicol, Elder and Ty Aldcroft scored and Urijah Moosetail made 18 saves in a 4-2 triumph.

In Thursday’s game, also at J&G Homes Arena, Brandon received a pair of goals from Nicol, with singles coming from Owen Stanley, Theran Turner and Hunter Ethelston in a 5-1 win. Moosetail made 25 saves.
