The Pembina Valley Hawks have taken flight as their season winds down towards the playoffs in the U15 AAA Manitoba Female Hockey League.

The Brandon Wheat Kings witnessed the Hawks (20-8-1) peaking for the post-season on Feb. 18, when they dropped a 5-2 decision. The loss dropped the Wheat Kings (17-12-5) into third-place in the seven-team league, while the Hawks moved up into second-place.

With this weekend’s games wrapping up the regular season, and playoffs starting in March, the first-place Eastman Selects (25-4-1) have basically led all teams since early fall.

Key to the Selects has been the team offence plus defence led by goaltenders Isabelle Labossiere (.082 goals-against-average GAA, .953 save percentage) and Delaney Dreger (1.13 GAA, .921 save percentage), with Emilie Carriere pacing the offence with a league-best 23 goals and 44 points.

The Selects have outscored their opponents handily 116-30.

The Wheat Kings boast a similar goalie tandem, with Shannon Hees and Gouldie three-four in the league’s goaltender rankings. Hees has a 1.26 GAA and .947 save percentage, while her teammate has a 1.26 GAA and .934 save percentage.

Hees and Labossiere each have recorded six shutouts this season.

Brynn Rice, who leads her team in scoring with 19 goals and 10 assists, had a goal, while teammate Katie Bell had the other against the Hawks.

Rice is fifth in league scoring, with her team scoring 57 goals and allowing 46 against as they finish the season on Saturday hosting the fourth-place (15-13-5) Central Plains Capitals at J&G Homes Arena, with puck drop at 3 p.m.

The previous day on the road to Warren, the Wheat Kings received a two-goal effort from Londyn Hrubeniuk to pace her team to a 2-0 victory facing the seventh-place Interlake Lighting. Goalie Morgan Gouldie earned the shutout.

Meanwhile, the fifth-place Westman Wildcats (12-18-1) out of Deloraine used a two-goal effort from Jaedyn Hoemsen to defeat the sixth-place Yellowhead Chiefs 5-1. Chloe Astle, Ivy Fry and Mardee Forsyth added single markers for the Wildcats, while Averi Jury answered for the Chiefs (8-20-3).

The previous day, the Hawks downed the Wildcats 9-0. The loss came after the Wildcats recorded a 6-1 triumph facing the Lightning, with Callee DeSpiegelaere recording a hat-trick, while single markers were turned in by Payton Smith, Astle and Ava Snyder.

With the Wildcats done their regular season until the post-season starts, the Chiefs have two weekend games remaining to be played in Shoal Lake. The Hawks are up first on Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. tilt, while the Capitals are on the agenda on Sunday for a 2 p.m. game.

The U15 AAA MFHL’s playoff schedule has not yet been released.
