Moving up three spots, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines are now first in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League power rankings.

Here’s a look at the top-five teams week 20 of the MJHL’s 2023-24 season:

The Wolverines (21-22-1-3) are riding a seven-game winning streak. One of the hottest teams in the league has clawed its way into a playoff spot.

The west division’s first-place Virden Oil Capitals (34-7-3-3) moved up one spot to second. It’s not always just winning the games you should win, it’s about winning them in a certain way. This team showed off in a big way by scoring 17 goals during a three-game span.

The previous top-ranked Steinbach Pistons (39-7-3) dropped two spots to third. A massive response after having a six-game winning streak stopped in its tracks, the Pistons stepped up and secured two crucial points against a division rival trying to chase them down for top spot.

The OCN Blizzard (30-14-1-3) moved up one spot to fourth thanks to three consecutive victories on the road. Wins don’t all have to be pretty.

Home ice would be nice to start the post-season, but the Blizzard have a very impressive 18-8 record on the road so far this year.

The Winkler Flyers (35-8-2-3) fell three spots to fifth. Some lessons are hard to learn and coming off giving up seven goals, look for the group to respond on both sides of the puck this weekend.
