Brandonite Kurtis Cullen returned home from the Pan American racquetball championships held in Guatemala with a team bronze medal.
Cullen and his Team Canada teammates Coby Iwaasa (Lethbridge, Alta.) and Samuel Murray (Baie-Comeau, Que.) left everything on the court in Friday’s semifinal against Mexico, but fell just short of moving onto the final.
Team Mexico were the eventual winners of the men’s competition.
Canada’s team also garnered three silver medals. Murray won silver in men’s singles, and also won silver in men’s double with partner Iwaasa.
Additionally, Iwaasa teamed up with Juliette Parent (Saint-Jacques, Que.) to win silver in mixed doubles.
Canada was also awarded fourth place in combined men’s and women’s team points.
Cullen had a strong performance in men’s singles pushing his round of 16 match to a tiebreaker.
Looking ahead, upcoming major events for Cullen and his national team athletes include the national championships in May and the world championships in August.
