Hey there, time traveller!

Teegan Hyndman knows volleyball is a numbers game in many ways.
The digits beside her name in the height column, 5-7, don’t jump off the page. Eager to continue her career, she played another numbers game and emailed every post-secondary program she could, asking for a shot.
Niagara College answered, and she will be a Knight for the 2024-25 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association season.

“It’s awesome. It’s definitely a rewarding feeling. It’s something I’ve been working towards since I started in Grade 6,” Hyndman said.
“Being able to play all the way through high school and keep going is the best feeling.”
The Hamiota Huskies libero committed around the same time her teammate Surrey Smith signed her letter of intent to play for the Brandon University Bobcats.
While they played at the A level in varsity, a talented Hamiota corps still faced the province’s best by playing for Cats Volleyball Club — this year Brandon Volleyball Club since Cats no longer exists.
Hyndman’s older teammates Reanna Gage, Ella Gurr and Whitney Rozdeba just finished their first years at Lethbridge College, the University of Manitoba and Lake Region State College, respectively.
“We all originally had such a deep love for the game,” Hyndman said of the group, which won the 2022 provincial A crown.
“Once we all got together it just continued to grow and flourish. From there, everything went up. It felt like we couldn’t go down that season.”
Hyndman was responsible for the all-important first touch that let Gurr run an unstoppable offence. Knowing a big dig or hustle play could lead to a massive Smith kill was all the motivation Hyndman needed to be willing to hit the floor as many times as needed to keep points alive.
Now her volleyball journey will stay alive beyond provincials at the Healthy Living Centre this weekend and Volleyball Canada nationals in Edmonton next month.
While some unknowns await, she has a terrific mentor in her older sister Orianna, who played middle blocker for Lakeland College through 2021-22.
“Ori definitely has a lot of connections through the CCAA, so I got to have that advantage, which was very helpful,” Teegan said.
“It was also something I wanted to do by myself, so I tried to use that as least as I could.
“I’d definitely like to thank all my coaches I’ve had, all my club coaches, Mason [Metcalf] and Cory [Smith] for sure, and my parents for sacrificing everything.”
