Neepawa’s Shane Hnidy will be entering the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame.

It was announced Wednesday that the former National Hockey League player, who played with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Neepawa Natives prior to joining the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League, played 590 regular season and playoff games in the NHL.

He will be joined by Brandon’s Brad Maxwell, who died on Sept. 3, 2023. The former member of the New Westminster Bruins went on to play 692 regular season and playoff games in the NHL.

This year’s class included five players, three builders, one official, one media member and two teams, as well as two players in the veteran category.

The others are: players Duvie Wescott of Winnipeg, Laurie Langrell of Warren and Russ Romaniuk of Winnipeg, builders Harvey Bolton of Flin Flon, Wayne Deschouwer of Mariapolis and Jack McKenzie of Winnipeg, media member Kelly Moore of Winnipeg, official Paul Krestanowich of Winnipeg, grassroots organizer Laurent Kerbrat of St. Laurent

The veteran inductees, who played in earlier eras of the game, are player and referee Ed Reigle of Winnipeg and Hal Winkler of Gretna, while the teams are the 2011-2012 Allan Cup champion Southeast Prairie Thunder and the Cartwright Clippers dynasty club from 1986 to 1992.

The induction dinner will be held at CanadInns Polo Park on Oct. 5.
