Racquetball Manitoba is hosting Daniel De La Rosa, the number one player on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), with two matches in this province.

As part of his visit, De La Rose will participate in an exhibition racquetball match with Brandon’s Kurtis Cullen, a Canadian champion and top Manitoba player on July 6.

De La Rose’s visit to Brandon will see him face Cullen at the Community Sportsplex at 30 Knowlton Dr. in two time slots: noon and 6 p.m.

The two high-end racquetball players will be playing for spectators the previous day in Winnipeg.

De La Rosa is the top racquetball player in the United States and current pickleball champion. He is the International Racquetball Federation’s (IRF) world champion in men’s doubles, winning the 2022 title in his home city of San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

He’s won 12 times on the IRT Tour, including the 2021 US Open.

Cullen is currently ranked as Manitoba’s top racquetball player and is a member of Racquetball Canada’s national team, frequently participating in events worldwide.

The exhibition match in Winnipeg will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on July at the University of Winnipeg’s Duckworth Centre.

Introducing the players at Friday night’s event will be Winnipeg’s own Sherman Greenfeld, who won two world championships and 10 Canadian championships, and was one of the top racquetball players in Canada during the 1980s and 1990s.

Refereeing the match will be Jen Saunders, an 11-time Canadian women’s singles champion.

Tickets for the Brandon event will be available at the door for anyone interested in watching Cullen and De La Rosa demonstrate their prowess the racquetball court.
